Friends,
We could not be more thankful or excited about all that is happening in and through the Grand
Rapids Dream Center in the city of Grand Rapids. When we started 5 years ago, we had one truck, a
trailer and three of us who drew a line in the sand and made the commitment to show up in the
Madison neighborhood every week. We had no agenda except to “find a need and fill it, find a hurt
and help heal it” and love on people. Learning to love people well and find ways to meet their
needs has resulted in incredible partnerships we could not have imagined then. Who knew there was a
food pantry and a furniture company ready and willing to support our food & bed delivery
outreaches? Who knew volunteers from so many different churches and businesses would be drawn to
give their time? Who knew in 5 short years we would go from 3 people who drew a line in the sand to
4 full-time staff, 4 part-time staff and hundreds of annual volunteers and donors who make the
Grand Rapids Dream Center vision a reality? God knew, and since the beginning we have:
– delivered over 2,048 mattress sets to 975 families
– distributed over 500,000 pounds of food to 6,350 families
– served over 37,000 meals at our Adopt-a-Block outreach
– ministered to over 2,700 men through the open gym ministry
– helped men and women walk out of addictions
– loved on over 22,000 kids at Powerhouse
– started men’s and women’s discipleship programs in drug houses
– and so much more
We are humbled and grateful for all the needs we have been able to fill that have led to authentic
relationships, and we continue to find needs that exceed our current capacity to meet. We see the
need for one-on-one mentoring, for produce distribution, for child care, for financial planning
assistance, for business creation, for multiplication of adopt- a-block sites, for community
houses, for our own building and so much more. Our vision far outweighs our current level of
resource, but that makes us excited. It makes us excited because we know that there are
partnerships waiting to be developed that will breathe life, hope and wholeness into so many men,
women and children in Grand Rapids. We don’t know what everything will look like 5 years from now,
but we know it will be powerful.
