Driver’s License Advancement:  GRDC is partnering with Century Driving School to offer increased Drivers Education Opportunities to those in our community who desire to learn to drive.

Something you may not know is that for years GRDC has helped dozens of youth get their driver’s license. We recognized how important it is that people are empowered and equipped to drive, and drive legally. A simple driver’s license opens up a world of opportunities. Over the years we learned many people in the communities we serve don’t have a license or means of personal transportation. They often must rely on a busing system. While needed at times, buses are much slower from point A to B, cost money, and can only take you to limited locations during limited time frames which significantly hinders opportunity.

In 2021 alone we worked with 13 people in the process of getting their driver’s license. It has become increasingly clear there is a great need for accessible driver education in our communities. These touch points have led to interaction with Century Driving School and as a result, we are partnering together for our first GRDC/Century Segment 1 driving class this summer at the Oakdale Community House. We have already filled all 28 spots

and the need is great for even more classes to be offered.

Additionally, we are purchasing cars for our students to learn in and meet their mandatory driving requirements. The proceeds from this year’s Dream Cup Golf Tournament will help to pay for the classes, the cars, the gas needed, and the insurance required.
