“AND I WILL GIVE YOU A NEW HEART, AND I WILL PUT A NEW SPIRIT IN YOU. I WILL TAKE OUT YOUR STONY, STUBBORN HEART AND GIVE YOU A TENDER, RESPONSIVE HEART. AND I WILL PUT MY SPIRIT IN YOU SO THAT YOU WILL FOLLOW MY DECREES AND BE CAREFUL TO OBEY MY REGULATIONS.”
EZEKIEL 36:26

A few weeks ago our Woman’s Bible Study studied this verse in Ezekiel. Sunny came up to me after and immediately started talking about the verse we had just studied. Sunny, who tends to be quieter and less willing to share, said with so much excitement, “The verse that meant the most to me was where it talks about God taking out our heart of stone and giving us a heart of flesh” and then she shared how she’s experienced that in her own life. She said, “I used to use drugs and hang around with a bunch of people that did a lot of bad things and when I was baptized a few years back at the GRDC Easter event, I stopped doing all that stuff. I haven’t wanted to do any of it since then! God took my heart of stone and gave me a heart of flesh. He gave me a heart to be obedient to Him!”

I was amazed and blessed by her confession and the testimony of what faith and baptism had done in her life, freeing her from her heart of stone and giving her a heart of flesh that wanted to walk in obedience and do things that brought her heart to life! It’s so good to be reminded that God is on the move, working and doing things in all of our hearts. And how good He is, that he completely released Sunny from those sinful desires when she was baptized.
